Say Cheese to the Camera, New Students!

In order to allow the new students and their parents to better integrate into campus life, THIS arranged interactive activities. The orientation officially kicked off with Ms. Ying Zhu, the executive principal of THIS, meeting with the parents of the new students. On behalf of the school, the principal warmly welcomed the new students to join the THIS family and wished the students a wonderful study life. Here she briefly introduced THIS’ profound inheritance, The Spirit of Tsinghua University, hoping that students are able to reach their ambitious goals. Principal Zhu then introduced the curriculum and teaching characteristics of THIS and hoped that the new students can quickly integrate into the THIS family and fully enjoy the fun of learning and growing.

Ms. Weiky Liu, Head of Secondary, systematically introduced the use of PowerSchool, the electronic educational system, to new students and their parents. Through this system, students can check their course schedule and grades, and parents can also keep track of their children’s performance. The school also provided detailed training on school disciplines and rules, such as academic requirements, school uniform specifications, English language usage policy, etc., to help students adapt to the school’s schedule and expectations as soon as possible.

Ms. Chen Xiaoshen, the parent committee representative, emphasized the importance of home-school cooperation in her speech and expressed a warm welcome to the new parents. She pointed out that the Parent Council is committed to empowering teachers and students by organizing a variety of activities, such as a talent ceremony to stimulate students’ creativity, a Teacher Appreciation Day to strengthen the bond between teachers and students, and a parent reading club to share parenting experience. On behalf of the Parents Council, Chen Xiaoshen welcomed all parents of new students to join in and jointly contribute to the bright future of their children.

Others involved included the secondary homeroom teachers who met with the new students and their parents to deepen their understanding of homeroom culture. Class buddies met with the new students to speak about campus life and answer various questions.

In the afternoon, the orientation for new students in the primary division focused on the interaction between teachers and students. First, students and parents had cordial meetings and exchanges with their homeroom teachers and teaching assistants to introduce homeroom expectations and make new connections. Subsequently, teachers from various subjects carefully designed interesting games and sports activities, allowing students to experience the fun of school life in a relaxed and pleasant atmosphere. At the same time, Head of Primary, Mrs. Rudisaile, and Associate Head of Primary, Ms. Helen Luo, introduced the parents to an overview of the primary school in THIS, its curriculum, club settings, expectations and requirements for parents and students, to help parents understand their children’s future learning. 

Afterwards, Chinese teacher Li Jingjing introduced how the Chinese teaching model of THIS cultivates students’ bilingual proficiency, integrates knowledge into understanding, and integrates culture into experience.

The orientation was rich in content and diverse in form, which not only helped new students adapt to campus life smoothly, but also allowed parents to have a deeper understanding of the school’s educational philosophy and management model. THIS will continue to provide high-quality educational resources to teachers and students, create an excellent educational environment, and help students develop in every manner and grow into future pillars of society with a global perspective.
